hey everyone, I am thinking about re-arching my springs in order to give a temporary solution to my 3 almost-flat springs on my 78 scout II until I can do a full lift on it.  Anyone recommend any shops in the Phx area?  Or, any wisdom you can pass on to me about why this is a good or bad idea before I do it?  Thanks,

Rob

Dunbar Spring Incorporated
718 W Jefferson St
Phoenix, AZ 85007
(602) 258-6901

I have used these guys a couple of times, but not for rearching springs. They are usually really fast and not to expensive. Might want to call them and get a qoute.

Rob,

I dont have any experience with actually doing it. But I do have a scout that the PO had the springs re-arched and I can say I really like the ride and looks it gives. In fact, other than my Terra thats SOA, it has the best ride Ive experienced in a scout.

I put Rancho 2 1/2 lift springs on my diesel traveler and I am seriously considering taking it back off because the ride is so horrible.

Keep us posted on what you do.

thanks guys, I talked to Valley Spring and they want $160/set.  I'll call Dunbar tomorrow.  I think if I re-arch them, maybe get a 1 inch body lift and get new body bushings that oughta be good to last until I either lift it or do a SOA.  Plus I have read that new body bushings might help my doors actually close.

Question:  When you rearch a spring and add lift,  the length of the spring (eye to  eye)  become shorter?  It will change the shackle angle unless other accomodations are made.  A few years ago, we did this on a jeep, and we had to change out the shackle attachment point on the frame to address the shorter springs.

If I remember correctly, when I put new body bushings on my Scout II, it probably lifted it a good inch or more - then again, mine were pretty much disintegrated and a couple were pushed through the rusty floorboard...depending how bad yours are, it may "even" things out and probably will help your doors close without "lifting" them up when closing. I just took my doors off - permanently.

too much snow to take my doors off!  I think I am just going to do the body bushings and re-arch, should be about $350 for everything and last a while, until I can afford a SOA, which hopefully will be about the same time I need new tires if everything works out how I am planning.  Because thats what always happens with IHs...
