this is just a feeler to see who would be interested in an overnight camping/fishing trip to the Black on the Apache res.  I don't have any specifics in mind yet, but here's what I know- the fishing is supposed to be great in the summer, but we might have to clean anything far from anywhere we would be so we don't have bear company.  Permits are $15 per day, the place I know of is really nowhere near anything and 2 hours from Pinetop, so the drive for anyone not in the White Mountains could be a long one.  I haven't been there in 2 years, but the roads are not too bad but definitely need a 4wd, and going after the monsoons start will probably guarantee an extra day of winching and shoveling.  I'm thinking June sometime, anyone think they might be interested?  We can work on the dates when we see who might want to go.

the pace I am thinking of is on the reservation, getting there through Fort Apache.  I am open to other ways to get there, I just don't know any.  You guys mostly off on the weekends?

I'm new around here, but I don't think I'm too far out of line telling you we're all a little off all the time. Grin

76 xlc - LoL!  You are so right!

As far as being off on the weekends, yes and can take an extra day (Friday) if needed.  Going up north would be a great relief from the summer heat down here...

so after consulting with my planner (aka my wife), it was brought to my attention that the only time I could do this is June 4-5 or 5-6th.  This work for anyone else?  The rest of the weekends in June I am either working or already doing something else.

I've heard stories of poeple pulling fish out of the black river all day long.  Every thing from trout to bass to catfish.  I'm in if it's still on.  Sounds like a great time.  I've also heard stories of the bears up there.  Let me know if it's still on.

I'm up for as many times as I can get there.  The only potential problem for where I am thinking is that I have heard once the rains start, the roads are all but impossible, and if the river is going too crazy it might not be great fishing.  Still could be fun though, or there's always the 30 or so lakes or just camping up here in the White Mountains too, the black isn't too high and gets pretty toasty in the summer.
